Blaine (Bus) Robinson passed peacefully on in San Mateo County at Carlmont Gardens with son comforting him on the phone. He had been suffering the effects of cancer since last Thanksgiving. Located minutes from his home of 34 years, Carlmont provided him with every comfort where he was dearly loved by staff and residents.

Bus was short for Buster, his nickname as a youth, which stayed with him throughout life.

Born and raised on a ranch in Hinckley, Utah, Blaine graduated from Millard Academy in 1944, earning a scholarship to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. But his real love was realized a year later when he became a cooks helper. This began his vocation as cook in Utah, Sous Chef in Washington, and Chef in Oregon and California. The highlight of his career was at the Menlo Circus Club, a renowned private polo club in Atherton, California where he was head chef for 13 years before retiring at 53. Besides his culinary skills, Blaine was a skilled ice carver whose pieces graced his famous buffets. Enjoying the arts, football, reading, piano, bonsai, and home decor. He enjoyed entertaining friends with a carefully prepared meals especially during football season. His favorite team being the San Francisco 49ers. He left a journal full of insightful words for his son and grandchildren to treasure and remember him by. He married Afton Clark in Bountiful, Utah, in 1951, having one child Richard, and divorcing a few years later.

Blaine is survived by his only child Richard Kevin Robinson of Portland, Oregon, eight grandchildren, Sara Beth Schofield, Emily Ann, Richard Aaron, Eliza Marie, Rachel Lynn, Jairus Noble, Sadie Jane, and Caleb Pratt, and two great grandchildren, Addison and Landon Schofield. He was preceded by father Ross Blaine Robinson, mother Mamie Bishop, sister Rayola Peterson, brother Buron, and four beloved german schnauzers Dusty, Nibbsy, Miss D.D. and Jordache.

Blaine was cremated at his request, with remains returned to son who resided in Portland, Oregon. He never wanted the attention of a funeral service, as he didn't enjoy being the subject of conversation. But those closest to him met at his home for an afternoon of memories on June 8th, with homemade sukiyaki provided by best friend Sachio, a live video concert of favored tenor Russell Watson, and video of opera's sung by Joan Sutherland. Blaine's spirit was present and enjoyed.

His survivors wish to thank Sachio who cared for Blaine with visits morning and evening during his seven month stay at Carlmont. He will be missed, but those who benefited from his cooking have finally started shedding some unwanted pounds. They await their reunion, and welcome his spirit as he keeps watchful eye over those he loved.
