Enlisted in the Union Army Company I, Massachusetts 25th Infantry Regiment on 08 Oct 1861.
He was taken, prisoner 16-May-1864 at Drewry's Bluff, VA, and taken to Andersonville Prison in Georgia. Later he was transferred to Charleston, SC, due to overcrowding in the prison, where he died of disease. No known grave at this time. He may have been buried in an unmarked mass grave in Charleston, SC
