ASHLAND - James Robert Brown, 83, of Ashland, Rt. 1, died Sunday at Clay County Nursing Home after a long illness. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Moriah Methodist Church at Bluff Springs with the Rev. Labell Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the family cemetery on the Brown farm.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mattie Lee Brown; seven daughters, Mrs. Helen Carpenter of Ashland, Mrs. Elizabeth Burrell of Talladega, Mrs. Callie Maddox of Cragford, Mrs. Katie Mae Motley of Cragford, Mrs. Eva Hudson of Sylacauga, Mrs. Margaret Elliot of Lanet and Mrs. Heidi Mitchell of Ashland; seven sons, James Brown, Samuel Brown, Karmitt Brown, Robert Brown, Bobby Joe Brown and Curtis Brown, all of Ashland, and Wilborn Brown of Cragford; a sister, Mrs. A. M. Patterson of Cragford; 34 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brown was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and a member of Mount Moriah Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War I. There will be military rites.
Blair-Brock Funeral Home will be in charge. .
