Ada was born on her parents farm near Porterville in Tulare Co., the last of 7 children. She was born when her mother was 44, and so a lot of her raising was done by her elder sisters. She met her first husband, Wyatt Alexander Harris Sr., while a senior in high school. When work became scarce toward the end of the 1920s, Wyatt moved to Long Beach and Ada lived with her parents. Unfortunately, the marriage dissolved.

Ada attended teacher certification at the University of California at Berkeley in order to support herself and her sons. During the summers, she worked in Lake Tahoe. Her sister Grace would take Ada's son Wyatt, while Ada's son Edwin would stay at his grandparents' farm, and later with his Aunt Kate Cloer and her family.

Ada later married Otto Schaaf. That marriage also ended in divorce, as there were problems between the boys and their new stepfather. There were no children of this marriage.

Ada was a fervent Jehovah's Witness. She taught and travelled to fellow parishioners' homes to counsel. She also gave away her land bit by bit so that people might have homes. She was devoted to her beliefs and to her religious community.

Ada lived with her widowed sister, Grace Adeline Betts Clark, for decades. Grace was also a Jehovahs Witness.

Ada loved caring for African violets. She had a cart for them in the window of her large country kitchen. She was one of those who had the knack of growing them. She also played piano.

Ada died of cancer. She is buried in her parents' plot.

She left behind her two sons, and four grandchildren.
