Jacob was the son of Samuel J. Yerian and Martha Jane Mikesell.
He married on August 22, 1901, London, Ohio, to Sarah Minshall.

Widely known London Citizen Succombs at Home Following Illness of Six Years and Gained National Note in Live Stock Auctioneering field.
Funeral Service at 2:30 Wednesday.
Death today claimed one of London and Madison county's best known citizens, Jacob J. Yerian, age 67 years, prominent in the business, civil and fraternal life of the community for 35 years, died of a complication of diseases at his home on Elm Street after an illness of six years.
Mr. Yerian had been active in many fields of endeavor until illness forced him to practically retire five years ago since which time he has been confined to his home and bed.
He was one of the best known livestock auctioneers in America for many years, was engaged in the life insurance and real estate business here for a quarter of a century and took an active and leading part in many enterprises for the upbuilding of this community during all of his life time in this city and county.
Mr. Yerian was born July 10, 1870 on a farm in Jackson County and was a son of Rev. and Mrs. Samuel Yerian. He received his public education in Jackson County, attended business college for several and then served in an office of a Coal and Iron Company in Jackson.
He came to Madison County in 1900 and started farming. Three years later, he moved to London and extablished an office as general agent for the Union Central Life Insurance Company. As the years passed, he became an auctioneer and engaged in the real estate business, forming also a partnership with Robert Mikesell as Yerian and Mikesell Auctioneers. He became one of the best known livestock authorities in this part of the country and gained national attention for his knowladge of the Shorthorn Breed of cattle, and for his selling ability, being called to many states for sales work.
Mr. Yerian was a lifelong member of the Methodist Episcopal Chruch and was a member and Past Chandlier Lodge of Masons, a member of Adoniran Chapter and London Concil Masons, a Thirty second Degree Mason and member of the London Shrine Club. He was a staunch Republican and a active worker in the party his entire lifetime. He also servid in the various civic organizations of London over a period of 30 years.
He is survived by his widow Mrs. Sarah Minshall Yerian now deceased, James Orville Yerian, associated with Radio Station W B N S Columbus. He also leaves four brothers, William of Plumwood, Oscar of Marysbille, California, Charles of Range township, and Lewis Yerian of Gillivan, Jefferson Township.
The funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. at the residence. Conducted by Riv. Ivan L. Wilkins and the burial will be made in the Range Township Cemetary at Sedalia by Funeral Director B.B. Schlechty.
