Lorene Leonberger Steidel Bauer, 91, of East Peoria, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 at Riverview Senior Living Community in East Peoria.

She was born in Shawneetown to Otto and Cora Lee Leonberger on July 6, 1916. She married Charles Steidel in Shawneetown on Oct. 20, 1932. He died Oct. 19, 1963. She later married Elmer L. Bauer in Peoria on Sept. 20, 1969. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, Otto (Bonnie) Steidel of Peoria; one daughter, Carolyn Elbert of Santa Clara, Calif.; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers; and one sister.
She worked at Caterpillar, then later as a baker, before retiring. She was a member of Zion Evangelical United Methodist Church in Pekin, and also a member of the Eastern Star No. 933 in Peoria Heights.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria, with the Rev. Bill Easton and the Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Visitation will be two hours before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Peoria.
