Mrs. Alma “Opal” Powers, 85, of Bryants Store, passed away Wednesday evening, February 17, 2021 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Ben and Rachel Matlock Bryant born on October 15, 1935 at Kingtown.

Opal was a homemaker, who took great pride in keeping a beautiful home was a faithful member of the Little Poplar Creek Baptist Church.

On May 6, 1953, she united in marriage with Archie Powers and to this union two children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie; five sisters, Fannie Blankenship, Mossie Johnson, Pollie Hall and Mary Lovitt, Mollie Lawson; two brothers, Clarence and George Bryant; a granddaughter, Chasity Lambdin and a son-in-law, Charles Lambdin.

Survivors include two daughters, Dinia Lambdin of Barbourville and Vickie Burgess and husband, Jackie, of Corbin; three great grandchildren, Miranda, Brittany and Joshua Cox; a special great-great grandson, Matthew Abner; a special cousin, Barbara Peace; a caregiver, Ann Estridge; special friends, Jerry Benttin and Eddie Smith; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, February 24 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Ronnie Rose officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Powers Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Bobby Matlock, Mitchell Trent, Ryan Mays, Bill Rhodes, James Miller and Doug Rains. Honorary bearers will be Jerry Benttin, Eddie Smith and members of the Little Poplar Creek Baptist Church.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
