Lynn "Cappy" Ervin, age 50, 100 Robert Ledford Road, Erwin, passed away peacefully at home after fighting a very courageous battle against cancer on Saturday, October 4, 2014. He was a native of Erwin, but had lived most of his life in Washington County returning to Erwin in 2012. Cappy was a son of the late Eugene and Elizabeth Bailey Ervin. His love for building began when he was 12 years old with any spare wood he could find or buy . Cappy was the owner of Ervin Enterprise Construction for 23 years building beautiful homes throughout the Tri-Cities. In April of 2008 he became the owner of Cappy's Apex Sports Bar where he was proud to serve the best burgers in town. He was an active member in the churches and was a youth leader in both Cornerstone and Hosanna Churches for many years. Cappy loved riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle with all his friends and began a motorcycle riding club in 2013 called Cappy's Regulators. He was also a member of the Erwin Elk's Lodge # 1985, the Erwin Moose Lodge # 939, the Johnson City VFW Post # 2108 and a support member of the Veterans of Vietnam Motorcycle Club. Cappy loved helping and giving to others. He coordinated and participated in numerous motorcycle poker runs donating the funds to a variety of charities ranging from friends with cancer or other illnesses, children's charities, The East Tennessee Children's Home and many other charities. In his final months battling cancer he enjoyed sitting by the fire pit surrounded by the beautiful mountain views watching his horses, the deer and wild turkey in the pasture. Cappy loved his family and friends dearly. He was a wonderful man, husband, dad and friend. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Stacy Ervin, May 8, 2011 and Clark Ervin, August 1, 2013.
Cappy has left behind to cherish his memories his wife, Kristie M. Ledford Ervin; step-daughter, Jessica T. Edwards of the home; two sons: James and Anthony Ervin, Johnson City; one daughter, Kimberly Gregg and husband Chris, Greeneville; his twin brother: Lee Ervin and wife Tammy, Greeneville; two sisters: Jeanne Harrill and husband, Bill, Gastonia, NC; Traci Rice and husband Maurice "Moose," Flag Pond; one grandaughter: Willow Nevaeh Gregg; nieces and nephews: Joshua Hampton, Presley Harrill, Andrew Back, Victoria Ledford, Logan Ervin, Brian Shell, Leighann Purgason and Rebecca Ervin.
The family will receive friends from 5 PM Tuesday, October 7, 2014 until the hour of service at 8:00 PM from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Mark Evans will officiate. Music selections will be provided by the family and pianist Inez Chandler. Serving as pallbearers will be: Pat Shell, Randy Arrowood, Buddy Shafer, Brian Tinker, Tim Manly, Andrew Back and Josh Hampton. Those wishing to attend Cappy's 2:00 PM committal service on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 are requested to assemble at the Unicoi Funeral Home by 1:00 PM to go in procession to the Polly Edwards Cemetery, Coffee Ridge Community. In Lieu of flowers Cappy would have greatly appreciated and wanted donations to be made in his memory to the Caring House, 2625 Pickett Road, Durham, North Carolina 27705. The Caring House was our home away from home over the past year during his cancer treatments at Duke Cancer Treatment Center.
