The funeral for Johnie Hubert Appleton, 82, of Athens will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Spry Funeral Home, officiated by Amos Conley. Interment will be in Pettusville Cemetery.
Mr. Appleton died Saturday, January 10, 2004 at the Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 10, 1921 in Limestone County. He was a retired contractor and an Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Appleton.
He is survived by eight sons, Malcolm Appleton of Ardmore, Tenn., Larry Appleton of Athens, Steve Appleton of Athens, David Appleton of Tallahassee, Fla., Gene Strickland of Ashville, N.C., Johnny Temple of Orlando, Fla., Hubert Appleton of Decatur and Tommy Appleton of Hartselle; six daughters, Frances Rochell of Elkmont, Ann Dison of Elkmont, Donna Atkins of Orlando, Fla., Rita Strickland of Maine, Judy Shaw of Hartselle and Tammy Bryant of Athens; one brother, Phelix Appleton of Athens; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Married (1) Edna Ruth Johnson, 1942, Limestone Co, AL. They divorced 1963, FL.
Married (2) Martha Joyce Gibson. They divorced.
