A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Parkwood Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Waters will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
Mr. Abernathy will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
The family requests that masks and social distancing will be observed.
Mr. Abernathy was born May 28, 1947 in Concord. He was a son of the late William Samuel Abernathy and Ruth Elizabeth Allison Abernathy. Charles was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church. He was blessed to work as a building contractor, which he considered as his hobby. He loved family gatherings, traveling, and always had a smile on his face. Charles was a graduate of Winecoff High School, class of 1965.
Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife, Linda Lucille Zuercher Abernathy; six sisters, Mary Griffin of Concord, Carolyn Daniel of Winston Salem, Ann Walters and husband Robert of Concord, Jayne Allen and husband Fred of China Grove, Kathy Blackmore and husband George of Hays, NC and Donna Barbee and husband Jimmy of Piedmont, SC; and 27 nieces and nephews.
