MORRIS HAMPTON

Morris Hampton, son of Reba Cutler Hampton of Dexter and the late Chalmer Hampton, was born on May 10, 1933, in Stoddard County and died at his residence at Dexter on Oct. 12, 2007, at the age of 74.

Mr. Hampton was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter, the owner and operator of H and H Construction Company in Dexter, a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War, a member of the Order of Eastern Star Dexter Chapter #311, the Dexter Masonic Lodge #532, 32nd Degree KCCH, Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis, Moolah Shriners and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Hooks on March 19, 1954, at Dexter. She preceded him in death on January 26, 1987. He then married Gloria Garrett on March 20, 1993, at Poplar Bluff. Mrs Hampton survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife and mother, survivors include two sons, Lance Hampton and Grant Hampton both of Dexter; by one step son, J. Felton Brigance of Poplar Bluff; and five grandchildren.

Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007. A Masonic Service was then conducted at 7 p.m.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lonny Mittag and Rev. Louis Lowe officiating. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
