George entered the service of the United States Navy on May 26, 1944 and served to February 10, 1946. Most of his service was in the Pacific theatre of Operations including a period at Pearl Harbor. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a life member and Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Quartermaster of the Litchfield County group; served with the Army Reserves and the Connecticut State guard.
Mr. Lent was born June 5, 1919 in White Plains New York, the son of Walter and Katherine Simpson Lent of White Plains, New York and Torrington Connecticut. He was graduated from the East School and Torrington High School. He was a die maker by trade, having been employed for many years at Hamilton Standard and the Torrington Company. He also worked at Carl's True Value in Torrington as Hardware Manager until his retirement in April 1988.
George Lent, Sr. died on June 5, 1989 and is buried in St. Francis Cemetery in Torrington, Connecticut. His wife, Santa Manis, who he married on June 9, 1941 at St. Peter's Church in Torrington, survives him. Sons Philip A. and George W., Jr., a brother David and a sister, Caroline Northrup, also survive him.
