He was born in Magoffin County, Kentucky the son of the late Chatman (Chat) Tackett and Penola (Howard) Tackett. He had six brothers, William McKinley, Jesse, Neal, Arlie, Cecil, Conrad (Jimmie) and one sister, one sister Bessie. He was married to Fanny Ward the daughter of Ballard Ward and Mary Jane Rowe. They have four sons Andrew, William (PeeWee), Thurman and Henry Eugene Tackett, and one daughter Nola Marie, who passed away shortly after birth.
