Mrs. T. F. Whiteside Called by Death
Mrs. T. F. Whiteside, wife of the late Dr. Whiteside, died in this city Sunday, May 5, 4:05 a.m., following an illness of several months duration. Mrs. Whiteside had been unwell for almost a year, but some months ago, had regained her strength to the extent that she accepted a position with a sanitarium in Lufkin, but in a short time because of quickly failing health, she was forced to give up her work, and since has been confined to her husband, the late Dr. T. F. Whiteside, proceeded her only a little more than a year ago, having died March 30, 1928.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock in the presence of a large concourse of sympathetic friends, The services were conducted by Rev. C. Pugsley, friend of the family, and former pastor of the Timpson Methodist church, but now of Keltys, assisted by Rev. A. A. Wagnon, pastor of the Methodist church, and Rev. M. F. Gathright, pastor of the North Side Baptist church. Rev. Puglsey had known deceased for many years, and his tribute to the beauty of her character, of her tender administrations to those who came under her care in her years of hospital work, as a member of the Methodist church and her useful life. A nobler or a more lovable young woman, especially among those who knew her best and loved her best, rarely adorn any community, and in her demise her appreciative former pastor and friend took occasion to pay his tribute of love and appreciation in a most touching manner.
The burial was held in beautiful Woodlawn cemetery, where flowers, of every color and design, beautiful and fragrant, sent by friends from many places were banked upon the newly made grave.
The pallbearers were F. T. Cooke, Ernest Boucher, Clyde Haden, Stanley Spain, all of Timpson; and E. H. Carter of Center, and C. M. Hutchinson of Shreveport.
Mrs. Whiteside is survived by five brothers: T. J. Lann, Simsboro, La.; Hosea Lann, St. Louis, Okla; Hines Lann, St. Louis, Okla; Jim Lann, Ruston, La; Willie Lann, Simsboro, La; and four sisters: Mrs. Jim Collinsworth, Saline, La; Mrs. Smith Rinehart, Saline, La; Mrs. H. L. Smelly, Jonesboro, La; Mrs. R. V. Shivley, Jonesboro, La. All were present for the funeral except Mrs. Shivley.
Among those present from out of town were: C. M. Hutchinson and family, Dr. Joe L. Ewing and family and Mr. and Mrs. Sam K. Baird, all of Shreveport; Dr. L. T. Tinkle and family of Lufkin, also a number of attaches of the Angelina county hospital of Lufkin.
