Moffat resident Robert L. Mitchell, 92, died at the Homelake Veterans Center on December 21, 2019. Robert was born on March 9, 1927 to Ralph and Leta Biggs Mitchell in Byers, Colorado. He married Pauline Martin. He was the most loving, compassionate, kind, generous and gentle man you’ll ever know and was so willing to lend a helping hand and a smile. He treated his wife and family so graciously and was a wonderful provider and intelligent great man with a beautiful heart. He was always there in his quiet way being dependable. Robert was very knowledgeable on the farm, cars and machinery. He was a great farmer and rancher and loved his cows where he would hand feed some of them. Robert loved to fly fish, hunt and the outdoors and found pleasure in many fishing trips and fish fry’s with family and friends. He was a great traveling companion which made it possible for our parents and their parents to enjoy a trip to Hawaii and Alaska, Germany and many state side places. Robert spent 30 years serving the Moffat Consolidated School and he also donated ground for the fire department to have their first fire house. He spent 5 years as Mayor of Moffat during which time the town received the first paved streets. He was drafted in high school and after basic and tank training he was sent to the Panama Canal to search for mines floating to the Canal. He had a lifetime of goodness and happiness to share with all especially his grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great grandkids who he loved. Robert is survived by his wife Pauline Mitchell, his son Kent (Judy), his daughter Kaye (Bill), his grandsons Brandon, Eric, Justin (Jill), Kip (Jane) and Hank (Jennifer), his granddaughters Debbie, Brenda (Jim) and Patricia (Mike) as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
