Lafayette Beverly died at his home at Scrabble Hill in Collins, burial at Pine Hill Cemetery. Son of James Beverly, first settler of North Otto and born there 78 years ago. He was a resident of this place [Gowanda, NY] for many years and employed by Ralph Plumb & Son as teamster where there was no railroad closer than Perrysburg. While drawing wheat to mill from station he crossed the high bridge [over Metcalf Creek, today NYS Route 39]. He being afraid of the structure walked behind the load and the bridge fell and both horses were killed. He leaves a son James Beverly and daughter Mrs. Sarah Tucker, residents of Michigan.
