John earned his bachelors degree at Bowling Green State University, where he was a member of the πKA fraternity, and became a longtime high school educator. After retiring, he served as the founder and CEO of the School Employees Lorain County Credit Union. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed restoring antique cars, woodworking, and gardening. He was a member of York United Methodist Church, York Township Historical Society, Friends of Medina Co. Parks, and Cranksters Model A Club.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Beth C. Bartter; sons, Brian (Frederika) Bartter, Daniel (Kristine) Bartter; his grandchildren, Jared, Anna, and Shannon; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Gordon, Ivan, Lawrence, Stuart; and his sisters Phyllis and Iris.
