Hans N. Hansen was born in South Bjert District near the town of Jutland, Denmark on January 19, 1875. He came to U.S.A. in Shelby County on August 21, 1893 at the age of 18 1/2 years old. He worked on farms and hauled milk for 2 years and rented. He then threshed for 2 years and then ran implement business for 2 years. He was married on August 8, 1906 to Marie Mikkelsen of Monroe township, Shelby County, Iowa.
To this union was born as follows: Evelyn June Campbell of Audubon, Ruth Frances Hansen, who died February 26, 1913, Marion A. Hansen of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
His wife died in Harlan, Iowa on the 8th day of February, 1914.
He leaves one brother, Lawrence Hansen of the Salem Home at Elk Horn and one brother, Knut L. Hansen of Antioch, California. Also one sister, Mrs Elise Tobiassen of San Francisco, California, also 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Hans N. Hansen died at the University hospital in Iowa City, February 21 of pneumonia and other complications. The last months of his life, from November 22, 1952 to the time of his death, were spent at the Salem Home at Elk Horn where he became seriously ill February 13.
Funeral services were conducted from the Immanuel Lutheran church of Harlan which he had been a charter member. The Rev. Lyle Paulsen, pastor of the church and the Rev. Anders Hansen of Elk Horn officiated at the rites. Schack's Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers were Hans and Henry Ohms, Joe and Art Petersen, Marion Mikkelsen and August Christensen, all nephews. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery.
