Funeral services for George C. Miller, 61 years old, a peace officer in Oklahoma for nearly twenty years, who was shot and killed at Three Sands Saturday, will be held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Capitol Hill funeral parlors. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery. Miller leaves two sons, George Miller, Jr., of Oklahoma City, and J.E. Miller, of Austin, Tex.


Sometime Law Man - Sometime Outlaw

Served 6 months with Texas Rangers in 1882.

Shot up by Posse while being chased for the death of a homesteader. Right hand had to be amputated & three finger croped on left hand.

Went to prison in Texas June 27,1897 as inmate 15437 for Cattle Theft. While in prison was fitted with a metal hook on is right arm. Released Dec 17,1900 as George "Hookey" Miller.

In 1903 was tending bar at the Notorious Corner Saloon in southern Oklahoma. Responsible for a number of shooting and the killing of Ed Hendrix.

In 1923 was Deputy Sheriff in the oil boom town of Three Sands Oklahoma. He and Deputy John "Two Gun" Middleton were well known for shaking down local merchants for protection money.

They had roughed up an Indian oil field worker, Jackson "Cheif" Burns and told him to stay out of town or they would kill him. On July 21, 1923 they spotted Burns in the Wayside Cafe, pulled their guns and went in to get him. He saw them comming, stood up and fired his pistol, hitting and killing both men.

Local business Men Posted his bond - He was aquitted
