On Wednesday, February 3, 2021, our brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend Gordon Henry Albersworth of Calgary, Alberta passed away. He was 97 years and 8 months old. Were it not for COVID-19, he would have likely reached his goal to live 100 years.

Gordon, the oldest of eight children (Lloyd, Russell, Mabel, Richard, Nancy, Paul, and Ann), was born on May 22, 1923 to Eugene and Jean Albersworth on a homestead southeast of Bluesky, Alberta.

After serving in Canada’s Air Force during World War II, Gordon returned to the family farm. He married Aileen (Stewart) Stephens on February 21, 1960. After retirement, Gordon and Aileen lived in Grande Cache, Alberta before relocating to Lacombe. After Aileen’s passing in 2012, Gordon spent his final years at Carewest Colonel Belcher, a long term care facility for veterans of Canada’s armed forces in Calgary.

In addition to his sisters, Mabel and Nancy, Gordon is survived by his children — Patricia (Wendell) Wettstein, Daniel (Thea) Stephens, Joy (Cornelius) Fehr, Russell Albersworth, and Theodore (Holly) Albersworth — as well as a host of grandchildren, great- and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held in accordance with COVID-19 regulations on Thursday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ponoka Funeral Home.

Gordon will be laid to rest beside Aileen in the Fairview Cemetery in Lacombe.
