James Rufus "Jim" Bare, age 83, of Wilkesboro, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Wilkes Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born November 27, 1937 in Wilkes County to Jessie H. and Rose Emma Anderson Bare. Mr. Bare was a US Army Veteran serving from 1956 until 1959 in Beirut, Lebanon. Jim was a member of the VFW Post 1142, a lifetime member of the American Legion; and a member of the NRA. He was a member of Stony Hill Baptist Church and retired from General Motors. Jim loved fishing; enjoyed the outdoors and camping, where Jim and Sylvia cooked for the Merlefest campers. He also loved his wife, Sylvia dearly and being with his VFW comrades. Mr. Bare was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Anderson and sister, Wilma Caster.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sylvia A. Bare; son, Brian Bare and spouse Pam of Michigan; step-children, Sheri Seitz and spouse Dan, Derrick Pendergrass, Tracy Pendergrass and spouse Gala all of Michigan, Greg Haymore of Florida, Mike Haymore and spouse Deborah of North Wilkesboro; sisters, Delores Oliver of South Carolina, Shirley Mariott of Tennessee; grandchildren, Rachel, Nicole, Misty, Anthony, Timothy, Noah, Jessica, Ken, C.J., Darrell, Melissa, Josh, Derrick, Michael and Aaron; numerous great and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bare will lie-in-state at Miller Funeral Service from 12:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2021. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2021 at Stony Hill Baptist Church with Chaplain Larry Reavis officiating and Rev. Rex Eldreth, Rev. Billy Felts, Rev. Ken Pardue speaking. Burial with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard Post 1142 will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Stony Hill Baptist Church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW Post 1142 Honor Guard, PO Box 357, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
