John Herbert Anderson was a retired Draftsman who worked for McGraw-Edison, a division of Cooper Industries, in Canonsburg for 35 years. He was married to Barbara Anne Whitesell and together they had two children: Gail and Kurt.
He was a member and elder of Bethel Presbyterian Church and a mason. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Legion of Honor, a group of retired veterans. He is laid to rest in Bethel Cemetery, Bethel Park, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

He was the son of Robert J and Hilma Forsmark Anderson, both born in Sweden. They immigrated to the United States in 1915 landing at Ellis Island, New York. John had a sister named Ruth Lillian.
