Mary J. Brown was born in October 1847 and may have married to a Johnson first, as indicated by the NY marriage index, which gives two names for her "Mary Brown" and "Mary Johnson". She married Cyrus (or Cyrenous) Hamilton Gorton on March 10, 1900, in East Syracuse. He was a blacksmith, previously married to Marcelia Scott. Cyrus and Mary were counted on the census together in Sullivan (Madison Co.) in 1900, in Locke (Cayuga Co.) in 1905, in Venice (Cayuga Co.) in 1910, and in Throop (Cayuga Co.) in 1915.
