JOHN BROWN
John Brown, an aged farmer of this town, died Saturday morning at his home on the Turin Road, three and one half miles out of the city.
He was 79 years old, and was born near Scarborough, England. At 25 he came to America and located in Westmoreland. His first wife died there, and he married Miss Rebecca Bielby, who survives him. They lived at Spencer Settlement on the Brush farm and later on the Huntington farm now the site of the county home. He then purchased the farm where he died.
Mr. Brown was a model farmer and a horse fancier and breeder. He was a Republican and a member of the First M. E. Church of Rome.
The following children survive him: Rev. Smith W. Brown, pastor of the South Street M. E. Church of Utica; George H. Bell, Mrs. George H. Plato, Mrs. William Smith, Miss Sarah Brown, Mrs. George J. Cook and Mrs. T. W. Smith of Rome and Mrs. W. A. Bielby of Westernville.
