Charles Nicholas Rimbach was born in Lauchröden, Duchy of Saxe-Weimar (now part of the German state of Thüringen) to Martin Rimbach and Anna Elisabetha Kegelmann. He arrived at New Orleans on 28 Jun 1858 aboard the ship, Edmund, having departed Bremen, Germany with several other young men from his home village, who were also bound for "St. Merry, Mo." [St. Mary, MO].
His obituary indicates he and Missouri Frances Nanney were married in 1861 and went on to have 11 children, 6 of whom predeceased him. Though he spent most of his life as a farmer, it also indicates he had trained as a miller and mason, being hired about 1864 to repair what's now known as the "Old Burnt Mill", which caught fire 12 Oct 1866. After his first wife died, he then married widow, Elizabeth McFarland née Boyd, and they had one additional daughter together.
