She was born to the late Ralph Edward Burgess and Dorothy Mae (Cosner) Kesner on June 28, 1946 at their home in Hartmansville, WV. Wilma also was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Louis Martin of Green Mountain, Keyser, WV, a stillborn daughter and a stillborn son.
Wilma dedicated the early years of her adult life to raising her three children and courageously raised them alone when at the age of 33, her husband passed away after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She then sought employment and found great fulfillment in serving as a cook and laundress to the children and staff of the Burlington United Methodist Children’s Home and later as a cook at Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, WV.
She was also a very committed member of the Burlington Assembly of God where she volunteered as the treasurer, a Sunday School teacher and janitor for many years. She especially loved to teach Bible stories to the children and tell them of the love of Jesus.
She lived most of her life in Mineral County, WV but lived from October 2014 - February 2021 with her youngest daughter in Jackson County, WV.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda L. (Martin) Broadwater and husband Wayne of Waynesboro, PA, daughter, Barbara J. (Martin) Riggleman and husband Ben of Evans, WV, son Edward T. Martin and wife Jeanene, of Keyser, WV, sister, Betty Mae Sweitzer and husband Sherman, of Keyser, WV, half brother, Jerry Fraley of Keyser, WV, seven grandchildren, Mitchell and Nicholas Riggleman, both of Evans, WV, Michael, MaKayla and Michelle Martin of Keyser, WV, Christian and Albert Broadwater of Waynesboro, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in the Mineral Baptist Cemetery, Keyser.
