MOCKSVILLE - Dr. Everette Aaron Eckerd, 83, of North Main Street died Saturday morning, Feb. 19, 2005. He was born April 5, 1921, in Hickory to Obed and Lola Bessie Burgess Eckerd and was a retired dental surgeon having practiced in Mocksville over 50 years. He was a graduate of Taylorsville High School, a graduate of Duke University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and later graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He was a member of the N.C. State Dental Association and was a driver for Meals-on-Wheels. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, where he had been an elder, a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and later served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. Surviving are... A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kurt Johnson officiating. A private graveside service will be conducted in Rose Cemetery.
