George W. "Blewie" Bowling, a lifetime resident of Fredericksburg, died Monday in the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury, N.C., at the age of 93.
One of the few remaining area veterans of the Spanish-American War, he fought with the Virginia Blues. He was the son of Lewis and Dorothy Bowling and was born in Fredericksburg March 29, 1878.
He is survived by his brother Fred Bowling of Fredericksburg.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. J. Howard Cates officiating.
Pallbearers will be W. T. Payne, F. M. Bowling, D. C. Bowling and Trephon Calamos.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury, N.C.
