"John Davis Lawson, 77, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. J. Allen, east of Covington, Sunday morning, Oct 23, from the effects of a recent stroke. He was born in Parke County, Indiana on March 22, 1861 and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Allen at whose home he died and Mrs. Harrison Abernathy near Covington; four sons, Jesse and Ivan of Covington; Irvin Danville, Ill., and Elmer near West Lebanon; 16 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Wilson, Rockville; and Mrs. Meda Hutts, Tangier, and two brothers, Vorhees Lawson of Linton and Albert Lawson of Tenn. His wife, Ida preceded him in death 12 years ago.

Funeral services were held Tues. afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Covington Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Ramsey, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery." - Crawfordsville Journal Review, October 24, 1938 p. 5 (Obituary provided by Bev Williams)
