On July 10, 1888, the Tulare Advance-Register (Tulare, Calif.), reported that "Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ellert have gone to San Jose in response to a telegram announcing the severe illness of Mrs. E. E. Akers, sister of Mrs. Ellert." Mrs. Ellert (Minnie) was the daughter of S. K. Spears of Merced County, Calif., per her death notice in the San Francisco Chronicle (June 7, 1899).
Mary F. Akers died of consumption in San Jose on Sept. 15, 1888. (San Jose Daily Mercury, Sept. 16, 1888; Oak Hill Cemetery per the death certificates index by History San Jose.)
