Walter W. "Bill" Rowe, age 96, of Marion, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Mission Hospital - Memorial Campus in Asheville, NC. Born in Marion, NC on May 15, 1924, Bill is the son of the late Walter E. Rowe and Ada Hoyle Rowe. Bill was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marion since he was eight years old and served as a deacon. He graduated from Marion High in 1942 and served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. After serving in the military, Bill returned home to work for his father at Rowe's Market. In 1965 Bill went to work for Currier Piano Co. as their treasurer and retired in 1975. Bill also served on McDowell County Board of Elections for 10 years.



Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, who passed on September 7, 1996, Jane Barlowe Rowe and his brother Edward H. Rowe.



Surviving Bill is a niece, Jane Stephenson of Lexington, KY and her children, Jennifer McLamb (J.P. Cordray), Rebecca Stephenson (Barry Richardson), and David Stephenson (Angie).



A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory, NC where Bill will be laid to rest beside his wife. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Marion at 79 Academy St, Marion, NC, 28752
