Donita “Nita” Baxter, 63, longtime Bartlesville resident, died Thursday in Bartlesville.
Donita or Nita as she was known was born the daughter of Donald Richard and Thelma Arlean (Hoffman) Limppo on April 21, 1957 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. At age three, Donita and her family moved to Tucson, Arizona, due to her need for a drier climate. As a child she dreamed of being a cowgirl and she had a special western outfit she adored.
Nita graduated from Catalina High School in 1975. She furthered her education by moving to Oklahoma and attended Rogers State College It was during this time her roommate needed work done to her car and had one of her handy friends come by to make the repairs, while Nita supervised. Virgil arrived and preceded to repair the vehicle and he was impressed with Nita’s knowledge of the tools and workings of the car. Virgil and Nita quickly fell in love and united in marriage on May 29, 1982 in Tucson. They made their home in Ramona, Ochelata and Bartlesville in Oklahoma, although the family returned to Arizona to care for her aging parents for two years before later returning to Bartlesville.
Virgil and Nita enjoyed 39 years of loving marriage. When the kids were planning a surprise 25th wedding anniversary for their parents, Nita found out about the party preparations and not realizing what the party was really for, she even helped plan and prepare for the special event.
Nita loved children and her precious grandbabies, always wanting to care for them and oftentimes baking sweet and sticky monkey bread with them. Together, Virgil and Nita enjoyed traveling and sometimes the grandkids joined them for special time away with grandma and grandpa. Nita’s passions in life included her cats, playing her piano and accordion, and baking. She collected Saguaro cacti and dried chili peppers, loved southwest décor so much so even her Christmas tree lights were in the shape of chili peppers. She loved her family and will be dearly missed.
Nita is survived by her loving husband Virgil of the home; four children, Amanda Baxter Richard Baxter, Kyle Baxter, and Jessica Allen; one sister Sharyn Slavens and Harold; sister-in-law Pyllis Limppo; and six grandchildren, Katelynn Baxter, Briggett Baxter, Kyrie Baxter, Levi Allen, Matthias Allen and Blake Allen, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other close family members.
