Hugh Edward Allen, 90, of Amarillo died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Robert E. Field officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Mr. Allen was born Aug. 7, 1912, to Joe and Libbie Allen in Gainsville. The family moved to Happy in 1920 where he attended school. He worked for the Santa Fe Railway during the 1930s in Happy.

In 1936 he went to work for Universal Car Loading Co. in Amarillo. He worked there until he joined the Army in 1942. He was a career Army officer retiring in 1965 as a lieutenant colonel after 28 years of service.

He served in Germany, where his son was born, during the occupation in Berlin. He also served in Korea, Japan and across the United States.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Winifield Allen, in 1991 after 51 years of marriage.

Survivors include a son, Kirby Allen and wife, Nancy, of Destin, Fla.; a sister, Callie Branner and husband, Johnny, of Amarillo; and two grandsons, Brent Allen and Kyle Allen, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.
