Son of John R. & Clara (BOYKIN) BILLUPS, who married 05 FEB 1845 in Muscogee County, Georgia. J. Boykin BILLUPS married 15 APR 1884 in Russell County, Alabama, Elizabeth Madeline LEWIS.

Burial entry in the sexton's ledger book shows: J. B. BILLUPS, born in Seale, AL, died aged 62 years [sic] in Seale, AL, of Seplicienece [? What on earth is that?!], and was buried 13 MAR 1916 in Section A, Lot 199, as a non-resident of Columbus, Georgia. The sexton was Emory JEFFERSON.

Daniel Olds’ index of deaths, AUG 1890 to DEC 1918, from the Muscogee County Death Register, on file with the Muscogee County Health Department’s Office of Vital Records, shows: J. B. BILLUPS, "White" male, died aged 70 years [sic] on 12 MAR 1916. [Despite appearances, this database is not proof that someone died in Muscogee County. Analysis indicates that the database includes information on persons who were buried at one of the Columbus municipal cemeteries, whether they died in Muscogee County or elsewhere, and usually excludes persons who died in Muscogee County but were buried at a site other than one of the Columbus municipal cemeteries.]

Per the Alabama Index of Deaths and Burials, 1881--1974: J. Boykin BILLUPS, born in Alabama, , a widower "White" farmer, died 18 [sic] MAR 1916, aged 68 years, in Seale, Russell County, Alabama, and buried in Columbus, Georgia [names of parents not reported].

James B. BILLUPS (widower male, aged 49 years, born Sept. 1850 in AL, parents born in GA), a farmer, is residing along on a farmstead he owns free of mortgage in Precinct 8, Oswichee, Russell County, Alabama, on the 1900 federal census. He is residing in the same place on the 1910 federal census (reported as "single," aged 59 years, born in AL, both parents born in GA, farmer on his own farm); with him are three Black servants and three children of one of them.
