Glen D. Kalt

Glen Darrell Kalt, 87, of Ripley went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 9, 2006, at CAMC Memorial Division. He died peacefully surrounded by his family.

He had experienced a long battle with cancer as did his wife of 55 years, Edna Hainline Kalt, who preceded him in death a year earlier. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Kalt; and a sister, Ruby Kalt Badgett.

He was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Frozen Camp, a son of the late Walter and Lora (Mullinex) Kalt. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served onboard the USS George F. Elliott. He was a member of the American Legion Post 140, New Haven, Mount Olive Lodge 3, AF&AM, Parkersburg, the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and the Ben Bay Grotto, Parkersburg. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 132, Charleston, W.Va. He enjoyed sports, fishing, camping and visiting friends.

Survivors include his son, William "Butch" and his wife, Cathy Kalt, of Aiken, S.C.; daughters, Barbara and her husband, Jeff Irwin, of Perry, Ohio, and Debbie and her husband, Steve Sisson, of Ripley; grandchildren, Shelly Knight, Angela Galbraith, Andrea Kalt, Mabbott, Jay and Stephanie Sisson; six great-grandchildren; and a great friend, Betty Burnside.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, W.Va., with Pastor Jack Miller officiating. Entombment will follow at Jackson County Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Cottageville, with full military honors by the Jackson County veteran's organizations. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are preferred to West Ripley Baptist Church, 611 West Main Street, Ripley, WV 25271, or the Muscular Dystrophy Association of SC, 2700 Middleburg Drive #240, Columbia, SC 29204.
