Carl Michael (Mike) a St. Louis lawyer, died on Thursday, June 18, 2015. He was 62. Beloved husband of Ketrina Bakewell (nee Coffey), dear father of Claire F. Bakewell, dear brother of Barbara, Richard (Nancy) and Joseph Bakewell, dear brother-in-law of Joyce Coffey-Rhodes, David Coffey and Daniel Coffey, our dear uncle, cousin and friend. Mike was a partner at Barken & Bakewell, LLP, in Clayton, Missouri. Mr. Bakewell focused on corporate, real estate, and municipal law. He was considered an expert on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), an area on which he counseled clients and taught at seminars. Mr. Bakewell received his Bachelor of Science from Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau in 1975 as class Salutatorian. He taught at Jefferson City High School from 1976 to 1978. Mr. Bakewell then attended the University of Missouri School of Law where he was Managing Editor of the Missouri Law Review from 1980 to 1981 and received his Juris Doctor in 1981. Mr. Bakewell went on to clerk for the Honorable John E. Bardgett of the Missouri Supreme Court from 1981 to 1982 and then to work on the legal staff of the Missouri Supreme Court under Clerk, Thomas Simon, from 1982 to 1983. In 1983, he joined the law firm of Shrifin & Treiman in Clayton, Missouri. In 1986, Mr. Bakewell, with his partner, Bernard A. Barken, formed the firm of Barken & Bakewell where he practiced law for the remainder of his career. Mr. Bakewell had a variety of personal interests such as music (classical and blues), gardening, and animals, including horses and equestrian sports.
