Henry Clay Cramer was the sixth child of Charles L. Cramer and Catherine Whipkey. He was born in Milford Township Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

He married Amanda Jane Blubaugh on February 20, 1881. They had 6 children: Ivy Ella, Bertha Mae, Etta Harriet, George Crawford, Sadie Ruth and Leland Dawton, who died as an infant.

Henry was a blacksmith and a veterinary surgeon. He lived with his family in the village of Kingwood in Upper Turkeyfoot Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

In 1914 Henry killed a neighbor, William Trimpy, over a land dispute. He was sentenced to the penitentiary for 5 to 8 years. Henry died in 1918 at Western Penitentiary of Penna., R.D.#3, Bellfonte, Banner Twp.,Centre County. The cause of death was given as mitral regurgitation and acute gastritis.
