Named for William Claiborne, a friend of his father and Governor of Mississippi Territory and New Orleans Territory. Enlisted 1809 in the Navy. As a Lieutenant, he was in the West Indies when rheumatism became an issue, and he was compelled to cease sea duty in 1855.
He was married to Elizabeth Delphine Saint Pe, who was born in Louisiana, reportedly August 22, 1803, daughter of Pierre Francois Saint Pe & Marie Hortense Verloin DeGruy. On the 1840 census, they are in Jackson County, Mississippi, and were in New Orleans in 1850. William died in New Orleans. Nothing further was found for Delphine.
