Tahlequah, OK – Funeral services for Darrell “Leroy” Drywater will be held, Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 2:00pm at Reed Culver Chapel with Rev. Kevin Webster officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 1:00pm until 7:00pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Darrell will be laid to rest at Gideon/Blue Springs Cemetery in Gideon Community. Pallbearers for Darrell include Derek Godwin, Justin Godwin, Caylan Godwin, Sandy Hair, Steven Hair and Nicky Hair.

Honorary Pallbearers include Brent Johnson, Everrett Huffman, Nathaniel Huffman and David Stand.

Darrell Leroy Drywater was born on June 23, 1951 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma the son of Spencer and Bernice (Booth)Drywater. Darrell had been a lifelong resident of Tahlequah and was known for having a true heart of gold, a deep passion for caring and helping people, drinking coffee and giving his nephews the “claw”. When Darrell was younger, he enjoyed trapping rabbits with his uncle Ed Booth. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, fletching arrows, tying fishing flys and working on vehicles.

Darrell was drafted in United States Army in 1971 at the age of 19. He would proudly and honorably serve his country during Vietnam from 1971-1973 as an Artillery Maintenance Foreman. Darrell was honorably discharged from service on March 2, 1973 with the rank of Corporal. He served in Vietnam from September of 1971 until May of 1972,earning the Vietnam Service Metal with Bronze Star,

Darrell would go on to work at his brother’s (Richard) drilling company and be a security guard for the Housing Authority of Cherokee Nation. He was most memorable for being a truck driver and got his start at Willis Shaw Express in Elm Springs, Arkansas which he was trained under his former brother-in-law Plez. Darrell worked for various companies including JB Hunt and A-Lady’s Transportation in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Darrell passed from this life to his heavenly home on January 20th, 2021 in Tahlequah, OK at the age of 69.

Darrell is preceded in death by his father Spencer Drywater, mother Bernice Drywater, son Chance Drywater, two brothers Richard Drywater and Bennie Joe Drywater of Tahlequah and two sisters Wilma Chapman of Tulsa and Martha Force of Moodys.

Those left to treasure his memory include three sisters, Carol Huffman of Tahlequah, Carrie Godwin of Tahlequah and Mary Clarkson and husband Randy of Bixby and a host of nephews, nieces, friends and loved ones.
