Cathy Lee Adelman
August 5, 1942 - January 25, 2021

Cathy Lee Adelman, age 78 of San Antonio, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021. She was born to the late Jerome Adelman and Gladys Adelman on August 5, 1942.

Cathy attended Cambridge Elementary School and Alamo Heights High School, before graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority. After graduating, she returned to San Antonio and taught at Mark Twain Middle School for a year, before setting her sights on San Francisco where she worked at a bank developing what would become MasterCard. But the highlight of her adventure in San Fran was when she was on a game show and much to the dismay of the producer, kept winning to the point of being introduced on her fifth night by the host as “Welcome to the Cathy Adelman Show.” Just think, she was a Jeopardy winner before Jeopardy even got invented!

Cathy returned to Texas where she worked for several years at the Pitluck Advertising Group and eventually landed at USAA where she stayed until retiring. After retiring, Cathy experimented with interior design and photography; she had such an excellent eye for details. But Cathy’s true passion and delight were her family and friends. She never missed an opportunity to join a family gathering, and she always looked the part. Women in the family were jealous at how well her skin looked – always young and vibrant.

She loved to travel and had a thirst for learning and writing. She tutored many students and helped them achieve many successes. She maintained a connection with her heritage, writing beautiful articles about the Adelman family over the years and in some ways, becoming the family historian. She loved her Judaism and its art and really everything Temple Beth El. She adored being a part of the Temple and having a place in its history. Her greatest memories, regaled many times over the years, were sitting with her beloved Aunt Idella as they sang the classics together.

Cathy is survived by her two brothers, Sandy Adelman (Carol), and Robert Adelman (Diana), and her four first cousins, Frank Adelman (Nancy), Helen Meyer (Harold), Philip Fox (Carol), and Marilyn Jankower. She is also survived by her extended cousins, David Adelman (Sharon) and their daughters, Katherine and Ally Adelman, Charles Davidson (Keli), Emily Kaufman (Rob) and many, many other loving relatives and friends. But sufficed to say, Katherine and Ally were her greatest joy and her world - she reveled in the wonderful opportunity to be a part of their lives from their birth to the wonderful young women they became.

The family would like to thank the exceptional service and support provided by Kat Phillips from Jewish Family Services. We would also like to thank the team at the Temple for the many years of dedicated service, friendship and genuine care they showed for her.

A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 27th at 4:00 p.m.

Interment: Beth-El Memorial Park
1715 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX
