Dr. Walter Wray Rumberger, for the past 48 years a practicing dentist in Mount Union, died suddenly at his home early on Monday morning, May 18, 1953, at 12:30 o'clock. Death was due to a coronary occlusion. The Rumberger home is at 117 West Shirley Street.

Dr. Rumberger was in his usual health yesterday. He attended services at the First Presbyterian Church in the morning, and last evening he and his wife called at the home of their son, Walter W. Rumberger, Jr., at Three Springs. He had not complained to his wife of being ill. He was 77 years of age. He was a son of Balser and Jennie (McElroy) Rumberger, and was born at Yellow Springs on April 13, 1876. He was educated in the public schools of Petersburg. He was employed as a railway mail clerk for six years, and then entered Temple Dental School at Philadelphia, from which he was graduated in 1905. Soon after his graduation he started the practice of his profession in Mount Union. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Union and had served as a trustee of the church a number of years ago. He was a member of the Mount Union Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons and of the Chapter and consistory at Huntingdon. For the past six years he has served as a dental examiner in the public school dental health program. He was widely known and highly respected.

He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Harriet Stratford of Mount Union; one son, Walter W Rumberger of Three Springs, and one granddaughter Suzanne Rumberger. He is the last surviving member of his family. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Clark funeral home.
