John Edgar Brison, Jr., 86, of Gastonia, died quietly at home with his family on Friday, July 31, 2009.

Born April 12, 1923, he was the son of the late John Edgar and Mary Adams Brison of Gastonia.

Mr. Brison attended Central School, Ashley High School, and Belmont Abbey College. John was an Army veteran in the 36th Division, serving for 33 months as a foot soldier in South Africa, Italy, Germany, and France. During the invasion of Anzio beach, he was wounded twice. John received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Medal and a French Croix de Guerre. After serving almost three years of military service, John returned and worked at Matthews Belk. He later became a Real Estate salesman working with Dixon Properties and Doster Real Estate. He opened John Brison Real Estate and developed the Saddlewood Subdivision. Later he joined Triangle Real Estate and helped develop Jefferson Woods and Su-San Farms. John was President of the Home Builders Association, the Multiple Listing Services, and the Gaston Board of Realtors. He received the Real Estate Salesman of the Year twice and the Multiple Listing Agent of the Year three times. John was a Boy Scout with Troop 11 at First Presbyterian Church as well as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Shrine Club, the Jaycees, the Masonic Temple, and the 24 Club.

John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce; two daughters, Becky Maxon and husband, Dave of Gastonia and Patsy Brison Camp and husband, Scott of Asheville; son, John Edgar Brison, III of Arden; grandchildren, Chrissie Maxon Lunsford and her husband, Todd of Gastonia, David Carroll Maxon and wife Tela of Gastonia, John Brison IV of Arden and Emily Brison of Arden; great-grandchild, Corban Maxon of Gastonia; sister, Mary Alice Kendrick of Gastonia.

A service to celebrate John's life will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, August 3, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John L. Frye, Jr. and Pastor John Stanley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. A private family burial will take place at Woodside Cemetery in Clover, SC. Honorary Pallbearers will include the 24 Club, the Gaston County WWII Last Man Club, the Board of Realtors, and the Home Builders Association. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John and Joyce Brison Scholarship Fund for aspiring child care professionals, c/o Gaston College, 201 Highway 321 South, Dallas, NC 28034, or Gaston Hospice, P.O.
