Funeral Services Held Saturday Afternoon For Joseph Edgar Yates
Funeral services for J. Edgar Yates, prominent Princeville resident, who passed away last Thursday morning, September 29, at his home in the west part of town, following an extended illness, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Bullock funeral home, Rev. Lee H. Smith, pastor of the Prospect Presbyterian church, Dunlap. Interment was in Mt. Hawley cemetery.
Obituary
Joseph Edgar Yates, son of Joseph Yates, Jr., and Elizabeth Keady Yates, was born November 15, 1862, at the farm home in Radnor township, Peoria county, Illinois, and passed away September 29, 1938, at his home in Princeville, Illinois, at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 14 days.
He was the fourth of a family of nine children, five boys and four girls, seven of whom survive him. They are; Samuel K. of Walla Walla, Washington; Arthur H. and Irving b. of Placerville, Colorado; Miss Jessie G. of Berkeley California; Mrs. Ida Bassett of Salem, Oregon and Misses Mary and Jeanette of Dunlap, Ill. One brother, Louis, passed away a number of years ago.
After completing the course in the district school. Mr. Yates attended the district school, Mr. Yates attended the Dunlap Academy, where he met Mary M. Hanson, who become his wife on September 28, 1887. Mr. and Mrs. Yates set up their home in Hanna City, Illinois, later moving to the farm east of Alta and from there to Princeville where passed away, leaving his son, Kenneth Hanson Yates of Dunlap, Ill. and two daughters, Lois Louise Yates at home and Jessie Edith Carlson of near Alta, Ill., to mourn his departure, together with six grandchildren and the above named brothers and sisters. Mrs. Yates passed away at Princeville, Illinois, January 24, 1923.
Mr. Yates united with Prospect Presbyterian church at Dunlap in early manhood and later transferred his membership to the Alta church. He was also a faithful Granger until he left the farm.
Mr. Yates was an outstanding citizen, honest and sincere in all his endeavors and he was highly respected by all who knew him. The possessor of a keen intellect and friendly disposition, Mr. Yates made friends very readily and his passing is deeply mourned by all.
