Dorothy E. "Dottie" (Wolfe) Whipkey was born June 29, 1926 in West Des Monies, Iowa to William and Nellie Kathleen Wolfe. She graduated from Valley High School in 1944. Following her marriage to Charles Whipkey in 1958, they moved to California and raised their family. In 1973, the family moved to Barstow where Dottie and Charley purchased and ran the Topper Motel from 1976 until 1988. Dottie is survived by her husband of 46 years, Charles L. Whipkey, her children and their spouses; Star and Bob Ott of Barstow, Bill and Kim Whipkey of Paris, Texas, and Kimberly and John Crowley of Fort Rucker, Ala.; and nine grandchildren, Bobby, Cathy, and Sarah Ott of California, Billy Whipkey of Colorado, Andrew and Phillip Whipkey of Texas, and Alexa Bookhart, Caitlin and Courtney Crowley of Alabama.
