Margaret Jane Dickey
April 25, 1927 - January 21, 2021

Margaret Jane Dickey, age 93 of Bellville, claimed her heavenly reward January 21, at River Valley Hospice in Russellville. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt who always put the needs of others before herself. Family and church were the center of her life.

She was born April 25, 1927 in Los Angeles the youngest daughter of the late Ervan and Jessie Fisher Adams. Her brother Stephen Adams and sisters, Katherine Williams and Gertrude Carman have preceded her in death.

Margaret was united in marriage to Raymond Leon Dickey in Los Angeles, May 12, 1945, beginning their married life in California. After the loss of their son Kenneth, and birth of son Paul, they relocated to Lubbock, Texas in 1948. The family expanded with the births of Paula, Bruce and Dennis. They engaged in the trucking and lumber business for 18 years, before moving to Arkansas in 1966. Margaret was preceded in death by sons, Kenneth, Dennis, and daughter, Paula Watts of Bellville.

For the next thirty years, Margaret’s smiling face would welcome you into the family business, Dickey Refrigerated Trucking. Her positive attitude and devoted faith enabled her to overcome every hardship that came her way. She was a lover of people with a caretaker nature. Nothing made her happier than to feed people gathered around her dining table. She would sing while cooking in the kitchen, and you could hear her whistling from every room in the house. She loved to spend time with her EH Club friends, crafting and laughing together. Margaret loved the county fair, and never missed entering her latest prized goods. Anywhere there was a gathering of friends or family, she could be trusted to show up with a cake in hand.

Margaret spent the last nine years at Mitchell’s Nursing home, the same place where she had lovingly visited many friends and family over the years, especially her beloved mother in law, Momma Clyde. Margaret died the way she lived, at peace with her place in the Savior's arms and calmly waiting for His will to be done. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Margaret is survived by two sons, R. Paul (Ruth) Dickey of Hot Springs Village and J. Bruce (Kay) of Russellville. Grandchildren: Mark Watts, Annie Cain, Douglas Dickey, Karyn Martin, Alisa, Warren and John Preston Dickey. Great grandchildren: J R Long, Dalton Watts, Katie Haggard, Savannah Kilburn, Santannah and Shelby Cain, Silas Leaver, Saylor, Shaden and Slayden Butler, Samantha Fleming, Krystin Martin, and Joy Dickey. Great-great grandchildren: Jameson Reynolds and Rayle Cain. Margaret Dickey considered it a blessing to have loved four generations of children. She is survived by a host of beloved nieces (15) and nephews (18). She was preceded in death by nephews Sherman Link, Al Frazier and Stephen Cowan and nieces, Sue Benson, Lynda Weihert and Sandra Schoutese.

Pallbearers: Grandsons, Douglas, Warren and John Preston Dickey and great grandsons JR Long, Dalton Watts, and Silas Leaver.

Tuesday, January 26, Margaret will be laid to rest beside her husband of 59 years at the Upper Spring Creek Cemetery in Bellville. Because of Covid, there will be family only visitation at Cornwell Funeral in Danville, beginning at 12:30. At 1:30 the family will caravan together to celebrate Margaret’s life with song and a private graveside service led by Bill Dickey of Belleville. The family encourages everyone to lift a glass of sweet tea in her honor, because if she has been a part of your life, you were blessed.
