Stephen Earl Douglas, born June 12, 1940, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Stephen was married to Cecelia Sue (Luelf) Douglas, who survives in the home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Neama Douglas of Chanute, Kansas, and one infant grandson. Other survivors include his daughters, Rachelle (Randy) Ford of Dawsonville, GA and Janelle (Lewis) Goins of rural Oswego, KS; and brother, Stanley Douglas of Kansas.
Stephen worked for Combustion Engineering as an auditor, accountant, and controller in Tulsa and Hutchinson, Kansas for 28 years before moving to Iola, Kansas to work for F&S Supply. He and Cecelia recently relocated to Independence.
He loved God, gardening, traveling, and Southern Gospel Music. His passion in life was working with young people. He was an ardent supporter of the Independence Bible School and helped establish a Youth Camp in Ochelata, OK.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Zac Goins, Jacob Goins, Micajah Goins, Christine Miller, and Abby Goins, and his four great-grandchildren. They will treasure their memories of playing board games and Risk with their Papa.
Private Family Services will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Webb Rodrick Chapel with Pastor Kelly Denison officiating. Public Graveside Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Webb & Rodrick Chapel.
