"Dr. Hills was born in Massachusetts to Reuben and Electra (Case) Hills. His father was a merchant and apparently liked starting new stores, moving to Connecticut, back to Massachusetts, then Ohio, Illinois and Indiana.

Dr. Hills became a physician while living in Ohio. Came to Covington poor and amassed a large practice and died wealthy. Devoted his life to medicine, never married. Member of the Indiana State Medical Association, which held its first meeting in 1849.

Dr. Hills became ill with bladder and prostate cancer late in life ans sought medical attention from as far as New York City. After suffering quite a while he shot himself in the head while lying in bed with a revolver one evening." - Fountain County Genealogy Society Newsletter, Volume 22, Issue 4, July-August 2016
