George was the 7th born of 9 children of George Henry Bartlett (1853-1926) and Margaret McDade (1853-1940). He was born in 1890 in the town of Newburyport, Massachusetts.

1900 US census of Massachusetts has George living at 125 Derby St; in Salem, Mass. He was 9 years old.

Later in life he moved to Detroit, Michigan. He was living there at 68 Woodward Ave; in Detroit in 1917.

He enlisted in the Canadian Army in Windsor, Ontario on January 05th, 1917.
Around this time he changed his name from Bartlett to Murphy (Reasons unknown).

On March 21st, 1917, George married Alberta Rice in Toronto, Ontario. Marriage Particulars #001867.

1921 Ontario Census of Kitchener, Ontario has George, Alberta & their 1 year old son Thomas living with her parents, Joseph & Catherine Rice at 201 Queen St; South.

Joseph & Alberta were living back in Detroit, Michigan in 1942 till at least 1960.
After the death of his son Thomas at 41 years, George entered Westminsters Veteran Hospital in London, Ontario.

He died there in his 73rd year of Carcinoma of the Pancreas and is buried at St. Peter's Cemetery in London, Ontario.
