Granite City--Fred R. Branding, 98, died at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996, at Colonnades Nursing Home in Granite City.
He was the self-employed owner of Branding Market in Granite City.
Born Dec. 26, 1897, in Sand Prairie, he was the son of the late D.W. and Mary (Adler) Branding.
He married the former Mary M. O'Neil May 8, 1983. She survives.
Also surviving are two stepsons, Gene Knipping and Robert Knipping, both of South Roxana; a stepdaughter, Margaret Bradshaw of Bloomington; three stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Branding of Granite City.
Preceding him in death were his former wife, Margaret Zenki Branding; four sisters, Louisas Willaredt, Mathelda Klausmeyer, Mary Branding and Caroline Branding; and three brothers, Henry Branding, William Branding and Elmer Branding.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, where services will be at 1 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Allen Reiter will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill, Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ of Granite City, where he was a member.
