BOONVILLE - Mrs. Ethel Bovender Brown, 92, of West Main Street, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. She was born February 17, 1917 in Yadkin County to the late Raymond and Cora Hutchens Baity. Mrs. Brown managed the Value Shop in Boonville for several years. In her later years, she helped several families as a private duty C.N.A. She was an active and life member of Boonville Baptist Church where she was a former member of the Adult Choir. Mrs. Brown was also a former member of the Boonville Home Demonstration Club; a Girl Scout Leader for several years; participated in the Local Senior Olympics; and was a member of the Yadkin County Senior Chorus. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husbands, Carl Bovender, Harold Toynton, and Everette Brown; her daughter, Carleene Hobson Brown; a sister, Flora Bovender; and a brother, Santford Baity. Surviving are her daughter, Penny Bovender-Peterson (Bill) of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kimberlee Hobson Stiles, Mint Hill; Sonny Hobson, (Gina) Yadkinville; great-grandchildren, Travis Stiles, Jenna S. Taylor (Josh), Brandy Lytle (Kevin), Keely Hobson, Dustin Hobson; four great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Ola Martin, Boonville; Mollie Smitherman, East Bend; Ollie Smith (Charlie), Faye Miller (Don), both of Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Boonville Baptist Church. Her Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Monday at Boonville Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Boaz officiating. Burial will follow in the Boonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Boonville Baptist Church Building Fund, Boonville, NC 27011 or Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin, NC 28621.
